Owner, Principal Designer and licensed general contractor
Jenny is the owner of J. Hoffman Studio Design + Build. With a background in architecture and construction, her passion is designing and building modern "spec" homes. Rather than working from a repeating set of home designs, each home she builds is unique, inspired by the landscape, surrounding vernacular architecture, and the intended buyer. As a green home builder, her homes are energy-efficient. She loves to use a high quality mix of materials, custom woodwork, and modern touches to create a one-of-a kind home that a buyer can move into immediately.
Jenny received her Bachelor’s Degree at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, supplementing with courses in architecture and drafting at the University of Washington in Seattle. She then pursued Graduate Studies at the University of Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning where she was awarded academic scholarships, received the program’s highest GPA, and worked as an architecture intern. Originally a Buffalo girl, Jenny came to Durham/ Chapel Hill in 2003.
Jenny is a Certified Revit and CAD Technician (Computer-Aided Design) through Durham Technical Community College and is a licensed N.C. Commercial and Residential General Contractor (unlimited category). She has served on the Town of Chapel Hill's Community Design Commission and is a member of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties and the Professional Women in Building Council.
Amy wears many hats and takes care of all of the support needs. She manages communication between clients and contractors, oversees finances, and runs the back-end administration of J. Hoffman Studio. She is responsible for business development and building out our client base. Amy is also a key player in construction projects, overseeing the logistics and ensuring products are requested, delivered, and returned. Amy keeps details from falling through the cracks and we are very grateful to have her.
Amy joined J Hoffman Studio Design + Build in January 2018 and loves the discovery, exploration, and actualization of Jenny’s design work. Amy and her husband Tom made Chapel Hill their home 20 years ago. She enjoys travel far and near, hiking, giving her English Bulldogs belly rubs, and any adventure one of her four boys suggests.
