OWNER, PRINCIPAL DESIGNER AND PROJECT MANAGER
Originally a Buffalo girl, Jenny came to Durham/ Chapel Hill in 2003. The rebirth of the region's tobacco and cotton mill towns were a welcome sight after growing up in the "Rust Belt", created when the steel mills along the Great Lakes folded in the 1950's. Vernacular architecture and creative re-use of industrial spaces is an endless fascination to Jenny.
Jenny received her Bachelor’s Degree at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, supplementing with courses in architecture and drafting at the University of Washington in Seattle. She worked on construction crews though college, picking up trade skills experience along the way.
Jenny pursued Graduate Studies at the University of Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning where she was awarded academic scholarships, received the program’s highest GPA, taught Architecture History as a graduate assistant, and worked as an architecture intern.
Jenny is a Certified CAD Technician (Computer-Aided Design) through Durham Technical Community College and is a licensed Commercial and Residential General Contractor. She has served on the Town of Chapel Hill's Community Design Commission and is a member of the Home Builders Association of Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Jenny spent her children's early years as a stay at home parent, and design and building were constant companions. She volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, designed and remodeled each of her family’s homes, and oversaw projects for family and friends.
Returning to her profession as owner of J. Hoffman Studio LLC is her dream job. She's passionate about architecture, construction and green building practices and she loves creating spaces that fit people’s unique lives.
